Naidu refuses bail, in 2-day custody

The Telugu Desam Party chief and former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu and 65 of his supporters were sent to two days of magisterial custody on Sunday after they chose to be jailed rather than accepting bail. Mr Naidu was arrested in Dharmabad, Nanded on Friday after he attempted to visit the Babhali barrage irrigation project, violating propitiatory orders issued by the state government.

FM channels to air shows in Marathi

Major FM channels in Mumbai have agreed to play Marathi songs on their channels following a warning by the Shiv Sena. Sena chief Bal Thackeray had given all FM players in Mumbai a seven-day deadline to start airing Marathi songs on July 11.

TDP chief held in Maharashtra

Telugu Desam Party chief and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu was arrested by the Maharashtra police for allegedly violating prohibitory orders in the Nanded district. Mr Naidu was arrested along with five TDP MPs and seven MLAs. Mr Naidu and his supporters were scheduled to visit Babhali barrage irrigation project in Nanded, which borders AP, for an “inspection”. The TDP has alleged that Maharashtra is building the barrage “illegally”.
