K’taka HC moves top court for stay order

The Karnataka high court, which faces a piquant situation arising out of an order passed by its division bench that virtually amounts to inquiring into the functioning of the Chief Justice on the administrative side, moved the Supreme Court on Monday for a stay on the order.

Chidambaram to report to the Union Cabinet within 10 days after assessing the “options and remedies available”.

Nagas meet PM, say will lift blockade temporarily

Naga leaders, after a meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here on Monday, hinted at a temporary suspension of their 65-day-old blockade of two national highways in the Northeast. Earlier on Monday, the Centre had said it would send more than 2,000 security personnel to end the blockade by Naga groups.

‘Distance mode can’t work in practical topics’

The government has decided to curb the teaching of practical subjects through distance mode. University Grants Commission, the higher education regulator, has in a directive stated that subjects that involve a large component of practical training should be taught in in face-to-face mode.

‘No other officers summoned’

Monsoon won’t impact kharif

South-west monsoon on Monday inched further bringing showers to some more parts of Maharashtra, Chhatisgarh, Orissa and parts of Gangetic West Bengal.
