Delhi CM asks city BJP chief to apologise
Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit said Sunday she had sent a legal notice to city BJP chief Vijendra Gupta for defamation for having alleged that BJP hoardings had been removed at the behest of the chief minister. The notice claimed he “conspired to malign her reputation and image”, and demanded an “unconditional public apology” in three days.
Jat protest hits water for South, East Delhi

Protesting Jat leaders angry at being denied reservation in Central services on Sunday downed shutters at a plant in Modinagar, Uttar Pradesh, from where water is sent to the Sonia Vihar treatment plant.
New exercise to get exact BPL count
Concerned over the bogus below poverty line (BPL) card owners, which defeats the purpose of social welfare schemes, the government has decided to rope in the villagers for the first time to get information about the poorest of the poor. The exercise, dubbed as ultra poor count, will run parallel with the BPL census 2010, for which a detailed methodology has been worked out.
CPM to start campaign for tribal rights
The CPI(M) has decided to launch a week-long nationwide campaign to fight for the rights of tribals from July 23. It was decided after party’s two days national convention on tribal rights organised in New Delhi. While addressing the delegates senior CPI(M) leader Biman Bose said tribals are facing discrimination in many parts of the country and government along with multinationals are indulging in unholy land-grabbing.
Ministry reviews its anti-Naxal strategy
The Union home ministry is now reviewing its strategy to deal with the Left-wing ultras firmly following the recent Naxal attacks in the country.
Sources in the ministry said a revised strategy to combat Maoist insurgents is being planned with the focus on precise intelligence, specialised training, modern equipment and faster mobility for the anti-Naxal forces.
MHA denies phone-tapping info
The home ministry has refused to provide the number of phone-tapping authorisations given by it to different enforcement agencies in recent years in the country.
The ministry has made it clear that even generic information about the working of such units is exempted from the transparency law. Citing confidentiality clauses of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the ministry said such information reflect the functioning of the security and intelligence organisations.
