SC puts ban on Ayurvedic quacks, demands degrees
Cracking the whip against medical quacks, the Supreme Court on Tuesday banned the practice by thousands of “Ayurvedic” practitioners not having the valid certificates or diplomas from recognised institutions. The ban will apply to all “Vaidya Virsharad” or “Ayurved Ratna” awarded certificates or diplomas by the unrecognised institutions

Rashtriya Rifles for anti-Naxal ops?
If the government asks the Army to set up a unified command and join the war against the Maoists, it could turn to the Rashtriya Rifles which has acquired considerable expertise in counter-insurgency operations in the thick forests of Jammu and Kashmir. A minimum of three operational sectors with three Army battalions posted in each could be put in place if the Army is ordered to directly confront the Maoists, sources said.

Unique IDs to be rolled out this yr
Claiming that constitution of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) was one of the high points of the UPA-2’s first year in office, the government on Tuesday said, the first batch of Unique ID numbers to Indian residents will be rolled out this year only.
Govt focus on rural development
The UPA-2 report card released on Tuesday said that as part of the social welfare measures of the government, the focus was on rural housing, drinking water, roads and electricity besides supporting the crippling farm sector.
