AI union calls for strike on May 31

The Air Corporation Employees Union (ACEU), a union representing about 10,000 employees of Air India (domestic), has called for a strike on May 31. A strike notice was served on the airline by the union, Air India confirmed. ACEU leader J.B. Kadyan said that the strike was being called on account of “delay in payment of salaries, shortfall of cabin crew, and ceding of ground-handling duties at Hyderabad and Bengaluru airports to the Air India-SATS joint venture.”

Security at 51 airports to be hiked

The government has decided to enhance security at the 51 major airports in the country to thwart any possible terror attack. The Union home ministry on Wednesday directed the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) to ensure installation of CCTV cameras in vital locations at all airports, deployment of adequate security staff and raising of perimeter wall. The home ministry has also directed the BCAS to install enough watch towers at all 51 major airports.
