Former Union minister and the sitting Congress MP from Nagpur, Vilas Muttemwar has come out openly against the moves to set up a thermal power plant in the heart of Nagpur. He urged Prime Minister to intervene and direct the Maharashtra government and ministry of environment to shift proposed thermal power plant outside the city.

A 52-year-old street vendor in Sarojini Nagar market, who was involved in a scuffle with the officials of the NDMC and the local police on Thursday evening, died of cardiac arrest in the early hours of Friday. Stating that the Centre had done whatever was possible to blunt inflation, Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday demanded a partnership of state governments in controlling price rise.
