Trying to understand whom we can thank for our happiness and whom to blame for our sorrow

Think about it. We are all born with a blank mind. We, then, keep absorbing thoughts picked up from our parents, teachers, books, friends and colleagues. Our ability to absorb them obviously depends on factors like intelligence and sensibility.

Over the years I have made many believe that my sources of inspiration are Ayn Rand’s Fountainhead — which incidentally everyone in the film industry claims to have read, ha ha — and Nietzche’s writings including those in Thus Spake Zarathusthra.

The very fact that such a high record number of jokes float around the topic of marriage — of which the most popular one is “Either you can be happy or you can be married” is a testimony of what people really deep down think of that noble institution called marriage..

Vis-a-vis eating, I always used to have this image of all kinds of stuff being fed into that hole called a mouth and then there are those machines called teeth which grind them into some kind of a yucky paste to be swallowed through a pipe called the gullet. ast Sunday, I left the fate of Vidya, assistant cameraman, dangling in this column. Some years ago, my film unit was involved in a train mishap — while travelling from Hyderabad to Naraspur — which took a toll of 17 lives.

Why am I not surprised? I was ready for the vicious attacks on Department. The hatred was guaranteed. It always is when you tread off the beaten path.
