GoM set up on Haryana water row

With Delhi and Haryana failing to amicably settle their water sharing dispute, the Centre has set up a Group of Ministers (GoM) for its resolution.
The GoM will look into the water sharing dispute arising out of the newly-constructed Carrier Lined Channel (CLC) between Munak in Haryana and Haiderpur in Delhi, government sources said.

Youth die, 2 hurt as car hits verge

A 25-year-old man died and his two associates were injured when their speeding car rammed into a central road verge in Hazrat Nizamuddin area on Wednesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Javed, a resident of Pushp Vihar. “His friends, Danish, 23, and Charan Singh, 28, are in hospital. The accident took place at 1.10 am,” said a senior police officer.

Gowda takes a dig at BJP over scams

Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (secular) supremo Deve Gowda on Thursday called on the BJP to first set its own house in order by removing scam-tainted Karnataka chief minister Yeddyurappa, before pointing fingers at the Congress led UPA government at the Centre.
Talking to reporters in the national capital, Mr Gowda said, “It is a case of the cat calling the kettle back.”

Jamiat chief: Only shoora can take final call

On a day when the head of the influential Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband, Maulana Gulam Mohammed Vastanvi said that he hasn’t resigned from his post as yet, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind president Maulana Qari Mohammed Usman Mansoorpuri said that it was up to Darul Uloom’s Majlis-e-shoora (governing council) to accept Maulana Vastanvi’s resignation or maintain status quo.

Radia quizzed for 3rd time by CBI

The CBI on Thursday questioned corporate lobbyist Niira Radia for the third time in connection with its probe into the 2G spectrum scam involving former telecom minister A. Raja. The agency officials questioned Ms Radia for several hours at the agency headquarters. Earlier, she was questioned by the agency on January 25 at the CBI headquarters.

After 60 yrs, BBC to shut its Hindi service

The Hindi service of BBC Radio, one of the oldest radio stations broadcasting to India, will close in a couple of months. It began broadcasting in 1940 and its last transmission will be on March 31, 2011.

HC rejects bail plea of murder accused

Even though the court had already framed charges against two accused persons allegedly involved in the murder of Pushpa Sen, the sister of retired Supreme Court judge D.P. Wadhwa and they were in jail since April 2010, the Delhi high court, after finding sufficient evidence against them, dismissed their bail application on the ground that they had committed a gruesome act by murdering a 80-year-old woman, who was alone at the time of incident.

Man shoots wife dead in fit of rage

A 30-year-old man shot his wife at point blank range in a fit of rage in central Delhi on Wednesday morning.
The incident was reported at 10.30 am from Anand Parbat where the accused, Pappu, a driver, was fiddling with a licensed .32 rifle owned by his brother-in-law, the police said. “Pappu’s brother-in-law, Ashok Pandey, a railways employee, was visiting the couple and had brought along his licensed rifle. Pappu was fiddling with it when his wife Sunita challenged him to use it. He got angry, kept it on her forehead and pressed the trigger,” the officer said.
