Verdict may help Centre’s bid for consensus
While it may take some time to go deep into the detailed reasons for arriving at the historic decision by the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court in the four title suits on the Ayodhya dispute, it is clear that the judgment has struck a “conciliatory” note, and could become the guiding factor for the Centre to try for a “consensus” on accepting the findings as the judges have handed it the task of dividing the land as proposed.
Upbeat BJP, RSS now talk of ‘reconciliation’
Lord Ram is back at the centrestage of saffron politics. An upbeat BJP and RSS on Thursday said the Allahabad high court’s verdict on Ayodhya had paved the way for the construction of a “magnificent Ram temple” at the disputed site. Both RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and senior BJP leader L.K. Advani, who was the architect of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, also appealed for restraint and said the verdict had opened a “new chapter of reconciliation” in the country.
Most CWG merchandise has made-in-China label
Forget the competition between the two competing Asian giants, a large number of products being used in the CWG have come from China. Docs, artistes still wait for accreditation
The Games are only two days away but the Organising Committee is yet to get its accreditation act in place. Apart from the 7,000 performing artistes who will participate at the opening ceremonies, accreditation for doctors selected for Games village and Games venue duties, as well as more than 10,000 volunteers, besides the workers who have deployed for sanitation works is yet to become a reality. It is also causing coordination problems and raised serious security concerns.
Prasar Bharati moves HC over telecast rights
Prasar Bharati, the regulatory body of Doordarshan news channels and All India Radio (AIR), on Thursday approached the Delhi high court against 24 channels for telecasting the Commonwealth Games (CWG) footage without their prior permission and sought an injunction against any further telecast as they had the sole rights to telecast the sports biggest extravaganza.
