CGF’s hackles rise over rugby practice venues

A special team of the Commonwealth Games Federation, which went on an inspection of the Games venues on Saturday, has asked the Delhi government and the Organising Committee to give explanation as to why the Rugby practice ground in the Delhi University premises is not ready yet.

Hindi writer Kanhaiya Lal Nandan dies

Acclaimed Hindi writer, poet and journalist 77-year-old Kanhaiya Lal Nandan, passed away on Saturday morning. Nandan was honoured with the Padma Shri and Bharatendu awards, and had worked as the editor of Parag, Sarika and Dinman magazines.

Aamir film is India entry for Oscars

The latest film produced by Aamir Khan, Peepli [Live], has been selected as India’s official entry to next year’s Oscars.
Depicting the growing rural-urban divide in the country, the film will represent India in the Best Foreign Film category. “Peepli [Live] has been selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars out of 27 films,” stated Film Federation of India secretary-general Supran Sen.

Metro to get 89 six-coach trains by ’11

The Delhi Metro will add more trains to its fleet besides converting its four-coach trains into six-coach ones. The DMRC, which has 129 trains now, will have 201 trains by 2011-end. Of the 201 train sets, 112 will have four coaches and 89 trains will have six coaches.

Ex-soldier arrested for murder

A former Indian Army soldier was arrested by the police in connection with the murder of a woman who was found dead on September 14 at Manakpura in central Delhi.
The deceased, identified as Sunita, was working as a supervisor at a Paharganj hotel and was found dead with her throat slit in a room of the accused Sonu, who had taken it on rent three months ago.
