Addiction is usually to substances. Devotion is towards something that you hold way above yourself. Devotion cannot be practised, it cannot be cultivated or cultured. When you are overwhelmed by something or somebody, when you see something or somebody far beyond yourself, devotion comes naturally.
Faith & the faithful
Faith is not something that you can cultivate. If it happens to you, it happens, if it does not, it does not. Does this mean that, “I have to sit and wait and someday it will fall upon me?” No. If you understand the fundamentals of living here in this existence, you know that for anything to happen, you must create the right kind of condition.

Navratri, culminating in Dussehra, is a cultural festival of great significance for all. It is a festival that is all about the Goddess. In Karnataka, Dussehra is about Chamundi, in Bengal it is about Vijaya Dashami. Thus, it is about various goddesses in different parts of the country, but essentially it is about the feminine divinity.

Ravana is a character from our mythic past whom we have not quite cared to fully understand. If you look at his life, you will find he was a wonderful person by himself. It is just that out of his own foolishness and egoistic nature, Ravana was unable to benefit from his great accomplishments.
