9 Ishrat case bullets still puzzle the CBI

Investigations into the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case have established that the 19-year-old Mumbai teenager and her three alleged associates had sustained a total of 80 bullet wounds during the “shootout” on the outskirts of Ahmedabad in the early hours of June 15, 2004. Investigators are still clueless about the firearms from which nine bullets were fired at the deceased persons.

‘Firing in two stages’

In the first round of firing during the alleged fake Ishrat encounter case, accused Gujarat cops, including Tarun Barot and Mohan Kalswa, exhausted their ammunition and stopped firing. For the second round of firing, Barot and Kalswa forcibly took away the weapons of I.K. Chauhan and started firing at the detainees.

‘Mukhiya’ murder probe set to start

In a bid to establish the alleged link of Intelligence Bureau (IB) officers, including special director Rajinder Kumar, in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case conspiracy, the CBI is now taking help of the Gujarat police as it has recently questioned a number of state cops connected with the case.

CBI to file 2 more FIRs against PSUs

The CBI is likely to register cases against senior officials of certain state government-run Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) as part of its probe into the Coalgate scam. The agency, sources said, is expected to register two fresh FIRs against officials of the state government-run PSUs by the end of July.
