Nitish wary of BJP Patna rally

Wary of losing Muslim votes, JD(U) leader and Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar is showing reluctance to join the BJP’s proposed rally in Patna on June 13.
Mr Kumar has not yet confirmed his participation in the rally, for which an invitation was sent almost a fortnight ago. In Bihar, Assembly elections are scheduled in October-November.

HC relief to students barred from exam

Coming to the rescue of 50 architecture students, the Delhi high court has stayed the ban by the School of Planning and Architecture on them and allowed them to appear in the examination.

2 held at Jamia for impersonation

The Delhi police has arrested two youths, including a woman, from the Jamia Millia University on charges of impersonation during an entrance test.
The police said Vikrant, 24, a resident of Gaya in Bihar, and a 28-year-old woman were arrested moments before a medical entrance test was scheduled to begin in the university.

‘Give more teeth to apellate body’

The NGOs working on police reforms have criticised the Delhi government’s move to constitute a Police Complaint Authority with depleted strength, while demanding that the proposed body be incorporated in the Delhi Police Amendment Bill 2010 to give it more teeth.

Man dies in firing at wedding

A 40-year-old shop owner was shot dead in celebratory firing during a marriage ceremony in west Delhi on Saturday night.
Police officials said the incident took place at around 11.30 pm at an MCD community hall in Budela village of Vikaspuri.

Woman hit, run over by vehicles

The mutilated body of an unidentified woman was found in Rajouri Garden area of west Delhi on Saturday evening with the police claiming that the deceased was run over by at least 12 vehicles.

Essar to buy stake in AGC

Essar Group will buy 59.13 per cent stake in IT firm AGC Networks from Avaya for Rs 206.19 crore. The deal would catapult the Essar Group’s IT and BPO arm Aegis among the top five IT solution providers along with IBM, Wipro and TCS in the country.

Cairn to step up crude oil output

Cairn India will step up its oil production from its Barmer oil fields to 1,30,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) from June end.
