‘Secy appointment can’t be disclosed under RTI’

Information pertaining to appointment of top bureaucrats cannot be revealed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the Delhi high court has said.
The court dismissed the RTI activist and Magsaysay Award winner Arvind Kejriwal’s plea seeking disclosure of information on the ground that people had the right to know as to what was the grade assigned to an officer who was empanelled.

No bulletproof vehicles to ferry athletes

There will be no bulletproof buses to ferry athletes and delegates, travelling to and from the Commonwealth Games venues and the Games Village or other accommodations, the Delhi police has said. However, adequate security arrangements would be put in place to ensure top class security. The bulletproof security was demanded by Pakistani security delegation in the wake of the Lahore bus attack in March 2009.

Artillery guns tender cancelled

The Bofors 155 mm artillery towed gun has lost out yet again in India. In a setback to the Army’s modernisation programme, the ministry of defence (MoD) has cancelled the entire “request for proposal” (RFP) process for acquisition of 155 mm towed artillery guns and has initiated a fresh “request for information” (RFI), defence sources have said.

No need to panic, CWG work on track: CM
