A youth has been sentenced to life imprisonment after a city court here held him guilty of stabbing a man to death for refusing to hand over his wallet in a local train.

People from faraway places known to liquor baron and real estate businessman Ponty Chadha and his brother Hardeep were present at the last rites ceremony conducted on Sunday at 9.25 pm at the Lodhi Road electric crematorium.

Ulhas Prabhakar Khaire, an accused arrested by the Delhi police for allegedly siphoning approximately `500 crores from investors through financial consultancy company “Stock Guru India”, has been remaded in police custody till November 24.

Five members of a family were on Friday awarded the death sentence in an honour killing case by a sessions court here for the “cold blooded, brutal murders through electrocution” of their daughter and her lover in 2010 for their plan to marry.

A sessions court here on Friday awarded the death sentence to five members of a murdered girl’s family, saying the crimes were the “cold-blooded, brutal murders through electrocution” of their daughter and her lover Yogesh (20) in June 2010 for wanting to marry in defiance of their elders. The boy belonged to a Scheduled Caste.

A youth, who was carrying travelling ticket but refused to show it to a lady officer in train claiming himself to be an advocate and stressing that he would produce it only before the magistrate, was convicted by a city court for creating inconvenience and released on probation.

In a 15-year-old financial scam in which hundreds of people were duped of their hard earned money, a city court has imposed a fine of Rs 52 lakhs on the then highly placed officials, including a practising lawyer, which would be used to compensate the investors.
