There was no relief for the Bar Council of India (BCI) member Rajendra Singh Rana, who was arrested by the CBI for allegedly taking bribe of `1 lakh to grant affiliation to a law college in Ghaziabad, as Justice Mukta Gupta of the Delhi high court dismissed his bail plea saying that saying it cannot be granted at this stage.

Youth beaten to death by couple

A mentally-challenged youth was beaten to death by a vendor and his wife in Nihal Vihar area on Thursday evening over a trivial issue.
The deceased has been identified as Prakash, 32, a resident of Chandra Vihar area of outer Delhi, the police said. The incident took place in Chandra Vihar when the accused, identified as Jasvir Singh, 55, a junk-food vendor, was returning home with his push cart.

Boy, 2, charred to death, many hurt in slum blaze

A two-year-old boy was charred to death when around 125 hutments in a slum cluster caught fire in Tughlaqabad Extension area of southeast Delhi on Friday afternoon.
The police said a two-year-old child was charred to death in the fire which started at around 1.30 am. “Ten fire tenders were rushed to the spot and it took them around one and a half hour to douse the flames,” a senior fire official said.

Air Marshal Browne new vice chief of IAF

Ace fighter pilot Air Marshal N A K Browne on Saturday assumed charge as the new vice chief of the Indian Air Force at the Air Headquarters here.

He was formerly the Air Officer commanding-in-chief (AOC-in-C) of IAF's Western Air Command (WAC), the largest and the most vital operational command of the IAF. He has succeeded Air Marshal P K Barbora, who retired on Friday.

HC grants relief to AIIMS doc

A division bench comprising Justices Pradeep Nandrajog and Siddharth Mridul of the Delhi high court has asked the AIIMS authorities to appoint Dr Anand Kumar as the professor of reproductive biology at the premier health institute. The post has been lying vacant for the last ten years because of a legal dispute. In 2000, Dr Kumar’s appointment was quashed by the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT).

Woman, daughter found dead, kin allege foul play

A 32-year-old woman and her six-year-old daughter were found hanging at their Bindapur residence in southwest Delhi on Thursday in highly mysterious circumstances.
The parents of the decea-sed woman have accused her in-laws for the deaths. The deceased have been identified as Meenu Sharma and her daughter Deepti.
