Cop in dock for not registering rape case

A police sub-inspector was in the dock for not registering a rape case on an illiterate woman’s complaint three-and-half years ago, as Rohini court additional sessions judge (ASJ) Dr Kamini Lau has asked the Delhi police Chief to probe his complicity in dithering on slapping rape charges against the man.

Youth shot dead, another found dead

A 23-year-old man was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Narela area of outer Delhi while a mutilated body of a 22-year-old youth was found lying in a park near Bindapur police station on Tuesday morning.

Fog eases, but light rain adds to chill in the city

The fog eased in the capital but the chill intensified with a light drizzle on Tuesday morning. The weatheman has said that more rain is expected in the coming few days.
Meanwhile, flight operations in the Indira Gandhi International Airport were normal. “There is a western disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir, as a result of which Delhi witnessed light rainfall on Tuesday morning. More rains are expected in the yearend,” an Indian Meteorological Department official said.

Expect more fog havoc

Fog caused large-scale flight disruptions yet again at New Delhi IGI Airport on Monday with 26 cancellations, 23 diversions from Delhi and delays to about 150 flights till Monday evening, resulting in severe inconvenience to thousands of passengers. Delhi airport sources admitted there were “some unruly scenes” at the airport on Monday due to the long delays and disruptions after passengers found the response of airline officials unsatisfactory on several occasions.

CBI may quiz RSS leader again

The CBI is likely to question senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) functionary Indresh Kumar again in connection with its probe into the Mecca Masjid blast case.
According to sources, Mr Kumar has been asked by the CBI to submit certain documents. Mr Kumar will submit the documents sought by the agency and is likely to be called again for questioning, the sources added.

Centre issues terror alert, particularly for Mumbai, Goa

The Centre has issued a countrywide alert ahead of the New Year with intelligence inputs suggesting that the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Tayyaba may be planning strikes, particularly in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Goa.

PM writes to PAC: Willing to appear

In a move replete with political significance, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh tried to take the Opposition head-on on Monday by writing to the Public Accounts Committee to say he was willing to appear before the panel on the 2G scam issue. The PM made this offer in a letter to the PAC chairman, Dr Murli Manohar Joshi. The PM had said at the recent Congress plenary session that he was willing to appear before the PAC. There is no precedent for such a move by a Prime Minister.

Govt yet to start hunt for DERC chief

Even after three months of the retirement of Delhi Electricity Regul-atory Commission (DERC) chairman, the Delhi government is yet to initiate the process to find a replacement for him. The private power distribution companies (discoms) have submitted their submissions for electricity tariff revision but the DERC has no chairman yet.

Bikers rob trader, locals blame cops

Two armed bike-borne assailants robbed a businessman in broad daylight in Karol Bagh, central Delhi, on Monday morning.
Police officials said the incident took place at around 11.30 am when the victim. identified as Vipin Mittal, 48, who runs a grocery store in Bapa Nagar, was going to bank to deposit `4 lakhs, which he was carrying in a bag.
