CBI arrests two top Kalmadi aides
The CBI, which is investigating allegations of corruption in preparations for the Delhi Commonwealth Games, made its first arrests on Monday. Two top officials of the CWG organising committee (OC), who had already been sacked following allegations of corruption, were arrested on charges of forgery and cheating in connection with alleged irregularities in the Queen’s Baton Relay (QBR) in London last year.
Trade Fair: Barcode reader fails
Confusion prevailed at gate number three of the Pragati Maidan on Monday morning with even the employees of the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), which is organising the Trade Fair, failed to get entry. The bar code reader is also not functional which led the security personnel to check tickets manually.
MCD students to get glove money
The MCD plans to give cash assistance to the Class 1 to 3 students in its primary schools for buying woollens caps and gloves during the winter season. At least 5.5 lakh students are expected to be benefited.
Govt extends auto permit deadline
The Delhi government on Monday gave relief to nearly 10,500 autorickshaws, who faced cancellation of their permits as they had not switched to smart card-based permits by extending the deadline by 45 days.
HC tells DU to act if teachers don’t resume classes
Directing the Delhi University teachers to start taking classes from Tuesday by following the new semester system, the Delhi high court on Monday made it clear that if they do not join duty, the authorities can hire ad-hoc teachers.
Cabinet nod to bill draft against touts
The Delhi Cabinet on Monday cleared the draft of the anti-touting bill that would be tabled in the Delhi Assembly in the winter session. As and when passed, the Act will replace an ordinance that was promulgated to prevent the tourists from being fleeced and harassed by the touts during the Commonwealth Games.
‘Cries of trapped heard till late’
It was a scene of total chaos all around soon after the building collapse at Lalita Park in Lakshmi Nagar area in east Delhi on Monday evening. Ramesh Tyagi, whose house was adjacent to the ill-fated building, said: “Initially, I heard a sound very similar to a bomb explosion. Before I could realise what had happened, I heard people shouting that the building had collapsed.”
