CM issues warning to Games contractors

2 cops arrested for extorting money
The Delhi police on Monday arrested two of its serving policemen from the Delhi University Metro station area for allegedly demanding extortion money from a scrap dealer at around 2.15 pm. Cases of extortion and abduction have been registered against the accused policemen Anil and Hitler Singh. While Anil is serving in Delhi police’s 1st Battalion, Mr Singh works with the northwest district of the Delhi police.

Khaps want law to ban same gotra unions
A meeting of at least 30 khaps (caste councils) here on Monday decided that marriages within the same gotra and same villages could not be allowed as they violated the centuries-old tradition. The khaps also demanded amendment in the Hindu Marriage Act banning such marriages. In case, the government does not do the needful, a meeting of shorabh (“supreme court” of khaps) would be held at Muzzaffar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh to decide on a “do or die” plan of action.
Moily seeks A-G opinion on curative plea
The Union law and justice ministry has received the opinion of Attorney General of India G.E. Vahanvati on curative petition in the Bhopal gas tragedy case. The A-G has suggested that there is legal scope for review of the 1996 verdict of the Supreme Court diluting charges against Union Carbide India Limited officials. The SC verdict had watered down the charges against the accused from that of culpable homicide not amounting to murder to criminal negligence.
