Custody of Pacheco is extended

The additional sessions court in Margao on Monday extended former Goa tourism minister Mickky Pacheco’s judicial custody by another day to Tuesday.
Mr Pacheco had surrendered before the court on Saturday after remaining underground for almost a month. After his bail plea was rejected, he had complained of chest pains and was admitted to the Hospicio Hospital in Margao on Saturday itself.

Bandh a flop show in Delhi: CM

The city witnessed traffic snarls and chaos on Monday as the BJP, the Janata Dal (U) and the Left parties hit the streets with Bharat Bandh call in protest against price rise of petroleum products. Several leaders courted arrest and thousands of others were detained at various places. A large number of people found themselves stranded for well over a couple of hours, even as the police maintained a vigil in large numbers.

Food inflation will dip: Chawla

The finance secretary Ashok Chawla said on Monday that it will take sometime before food inflation falls to an acceptable range of around 5 per cent.
“Food inflation is going down. It will take some time before it really comes into a range which is acceptable to the government and which is good for the people,” said Mr Chawla.

UP cops get jail for fabricating evidence

A Delhi court on Monday sentenced six Uttar Pradesh policemen, including a superintendent of police, to two years in jail for illegally confining the relatives of a man and fabricating evidence against them for his act of marrying a girl against the wishes of her family.
