6 weeks for Centre’s decision
The government has made it clear that it may take up to six weeks for it to take a final call on the issue of a separate Telangana state. It is most likely that a final decision on Telangana would be taken before the Budget Session of Parliament.
Parents refuse to take ill baby home
Despite a committee of doctors recommending that the infant abandoned by parents at St. Stephen’s Hospital can be taken back home and looked after, they refuse to take back the child. The parents apparently want that the health problems of the child are treated before they take him back. The Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) is now of the view that criminal action should be initiated against the parents for abandoning the child.

Govt plans to start 12 hospitals
The Delhi government is planning to commission more than a dozen new hospitals in the city during next few years to deal with the ever-increasing medical needs. The plan is aimed to enhance the number of beds in the capital which seem inadequate at times. There are presently 7,510 beds in 38 city government hospitals
MP, MLAs among 15 challaned
At least 15 people, including an MP, two MLAs and a senior transport department official of another state, have been challaned for driving in vehicles with red beacons unauthorisedly. The challans were issued during a special drive which started on January 4.
Burglars strike at 3 shops in Shakarpur in a night
A gang of burglars struck at three shops in east Delhi’s Shakarpur area and decamped with cash and valuables worth lakhs of rupees on Tuesday night.
The police said all the incidents were discovered between 9 am to 11 am on Tuesday when the shop owners arrived and found that their shops were broken into in the same manner. “The stolen cash and merchandise is estimated to be around `6 lakhs,” a senior police official said.
All city schools closed till Jan. 9
In the wake of the extreme cold conditions in the city, the Delhi government on Wednesday announced closure of all schools till January 9. Delhi continued to shiver even as the minimum temperature rose by 0.5 degrees Celsius over the season’s lowest recorded on Tuesday.
No flouting norms, govt tells schools
The Delhi government has issued notices to over six schools for asking about parents’ education as it is against the Right to Education Act. The government has instructed the schools to abide by the norms else their admission
process would be cancelled.
