‘Srikrishna report rejects 3 options’
Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Thursday, referring to the Srikrishna Committee recommendations, said that the report itself has rejected the first three options as “non-practicable”. The committee has placed a set of six options before the Centre.
S-I shoots self at work, succumbs

MCD schools to be closed till Thursday
The MCD on Thursday said that on account of extreme cold conditions, its primary schools will remain closed from January 9 to January 13. Meanwhile, despite slight improvement in the maximum and minimum temperatures, cold wave conditions continued to prevail in the city.
Luxury car fleet for city PCR vans
The Delhi police will become the country’s first police force to use a luxury car as a PCR van as 150 such cars are likely to be procured.
Delhi police commissioner B.K. Gupta said that the decision to purchase “fast” cars was triggered by cases like the recent Dhaula Kuan gangrape where prompt action could have saved the victim. “Prompt action needs to be taken on crime alerts. We are procuring these cars to enable the staff to move fast,” he said.
MP, MLAs among 15 challaned
At least 15 people, including an MP, two MLAs and a senior transport department official of another state, have been challaned for driving in vehicles with red beacons unauthorisedly. The challans were issued during a special drive which started on January 4.
Burglars strike at 3 shops in Shakarpur in a night
A gang of burglars struck at three shops in east Delhi’s Shakarpur area and decamped with cash and valuables worth lakhs of rupees on Tuesday night.
The police said all the incidents were discovered between 9 am to 11 am on Tuesday when the shop owners arrived and found that their shops were broken into in the same manner. “The stolen cash and merchandise is estimated to be around `6 lakhs,” a senior police official said.
All city schools closed till Jan. 9
In the wake of the extreme cold conditions in the city, the Delhi government on Wednesday announced closure of all schools till January 9. Delhi continued to shiver even as the minimum temperature rose by 0.5 degrees Celsius over the season’s lowest recorded on Tuesday.
