Jats cut off water supply to city

2 boys drown in sea off Juhu

Storm, sparse rain bring respite
Duststorm at a speed of 62 kms per hour and light showers lashed parts of the city on Sunday afternoon, bringing relief to the people reeling under heat conditions. The weatherman stated that the duststorms and light rains were due to western disturbances. The met department also stated that there is likelihood of thunderstorm and rains in the capital in the next few days as well.
Srinagar continues to simmer 2nd day
Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital Srinagar continues to simmer in the aftermath of the killing of an 18-year-old student in police action here on Friday.
For the second day running on Sunday, irate crowds clashed with police and CRPF at about a dozen places across the city even as the undeclared curfew continued to be in force in vast downtown Srinagar areas falling under five police stations, leaving dozens injured.
Siachen wins main event
Jagdish Singh Dhariwal-trained Siachen was ably ridden by Y. S. Srinath to claim the Fillies Trial Stakes, the feature event of the races held here on Sunday.
Srinath raced Siachen in mid group of the closely bunched field before shooting into lead mid way up the stretch to win quiet convincingly from late rallying Moonlight Romance, the favourite before the event.
Ministry reviews its anti-Naxal strategy
The Union home ministry is now reviewing its strategy to deal with the Left-wing ultras firmly following the recent Naxal attacks in the country.
Sources in the ministry said a revised strategy to combat Maoist insurgents is being planned with the focus on precise intelligence, specialised training, modern equipment and faster mobility for the anti-Naxal forces.

MHA denies phone-tapping info
The home ministry has refused to provide the number of phone-tapping authorisations given by it to different enforcement agencies in recent years in the country.
The ministry has made it clear that even generic information about the working of such units is exempted from the transparency law. Citing confidentiality clauses of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the ministry said such information reflect the functioning of the security and intelligence organisations.
